How Can PFL Leave Be Used? An employee can take PFL leave at once or intermittently: • To care for a family member with a serious health condition; • To bond with a new child during the first 12 months after birth, adoption, or fostering; • To address needs arising out of a family member’s active military service. PFL cannot be used for the employee’s own health condition.
