• Must submit their completed request package to the insurance carrier within 30 days after the start of leave. • Must make payroll contributions for PFL benefits.

How Can PFL Leave Be Used? An employee can take PFL leave at once or intermittently: • To care for a family member with a serious health condition or who is preparing for or recovering from organ or tissue donation; • To bond with a new child during the first 12 months after birth, adoption, or fostering; • To address needs arising out of a family member’s active military service. PFL cannot be used for the employee’s own health condition. What Is Included? • The number of available weeks and maximum pay, which is a percentage of the employee’s average weekly wage (AWW) capped at a percentage of the state average weekly wage (SAWW), will increase yearly until PFL is fully enacted in 2021. • An employee who takes PFL must be reinstated to their original position, or a comparable position with equal pay, upon returning to work. • An employer must maintain an employee’s group health plan benefits for the duration of leave as if the employee had continued to work. • While an employee may not lose any benefits accrued during employment prior to taking family leave, they do not accrue benefits during leave.
