FROM THE CHAIRMAN
Thank you for being a member of GNYADA.
We, as dealers, have a lot on our plate. Inventory allocation problems, chip shortages, finding qualified personnel, and some OEMs continuing to find new ways to put pressure on us, all while we try to sell and service vehicles during an ongoing pandemic, economic uncertainty, and political unrest which can be overwhelming at times. However, knowing that we have an Association that is recognized and respected throughout the State and Country leading the charge in the fight for our best interests, certainly helps. GNYADA is at the forefront of government affairs, franchise law issues, and regulatory concerns as well as everything else that effects our businesses. As a long-standing GNYADA Member, I know of no other Association in the country that understands the needs of its members - and works with them to provide the tools needed to prosper - better than GNYADA. We will continue to strive to develop and maintain programs that will assist you in running your dealership. With that, I am proud to present you with the 2022 Membership Directory and Services Guide. It contains a limitless amount of information that can save you considerable time and money. The scope of its contents is reassuring to all of us to have a resource like GNYADA working so tirelessly for us. Government Relations - Advocacy for Franchised New Car Dealers
In the past year, the Association went to work on its largest and most ambitious Legislative Agenda ever, during a session unlike any other. The unique circumstances surrounding this legislative session, including necessary health and safety measures due to the enduring COVID-19 pandemic, posed challenges for us with limited in- person meetings and many Zoom calls for most of the session.
Despite the unusual circumstances, the Association’s advocacy efforts still led to many positive outcomes for our members. Bills that we supported had a greater likelihood of passage, while bills we opposed had a larger tendency to fail. Some of the big wins for the 2022 session included knocking out the Direct Sales Bill, the Recall Bill, the Commercial Lemon Law Bill, and the Ban on Lease Turn-In Fees Bill. Bills that would have cost dealers’businesses dearly. While the Association successfully blocked costly regulations, several bills were improved and passed with GNYADA amendments to protect dealers’ interests such as the Catalytic Converter Protection Bill and the State eliminating weight limits for pick-up trucks to be registered as passenger vehicles and be used on the State’s parkways. If you have legislative issues you would like to discuss, contact Susan Bieber, Vice President of Dealer Services at 718.746.5900, ext 250 or susan@gnyada.com.
