DON’T WAIT FOR PAPER IF LIEN RELEASED Earlier this year, DMV agreed to allowdealers to submit in-state registration and title applications without waiting for anMV-901 or a letter from the lender when liens are released electronically by lenders using DMV’s Electronic Lien Transfer (ELT) system.
Here’s how you can take advantage of this service: Go to DMV’s online Status Check webpage where it will show there is no lien on the vehicle. dmv.ny.gov/registration/how-check-title-or-lien-status
DMV issued guidance permitting the Status Check printout to be used instead of an MV-901 or Lien Release letter issued from the lender. Now, when the lender has cleared the lien using DMV’s ELT process, dealers can print the report from DMV’s Status Check webpage, include it with the registration paperwork, and submit it to DMV or GNYADA’s Registration and Title Service (DMV-DIRECT). DMV or DMV-DIRECT will process the application without any paper release from the lender.
