REPORTING DEADLINES EXTENDED: NYC DEALERS MUST SUBMIT 2017 AND 2018 ENERGY AND WATER BENCHMARKING

NYC dealers who own buildings (e.g., dealerships, maintenance garages, car washes, fully - covered garages, owned storage spaces, and administrative buildings) larger than 25,000 sq. ft. of floor space (multiple stories all count), or who own a tax lot with multiple buildings with the total floor space of more than 100,000 square feet, must report energy and water use to the City annually.

New Deadlines: 2017 data must be submitted by February 15, 2019; and 2018 data must be submitted by May 1, 2019.

If you received a compliance notification from the New York City Department of Finance, this law applies to you. If you aren’t sure if you received a notification, check the City’s records about your property at NYC Oasis’s location report to see your building’s area. Make sure to include all the stories in the building. How to Report The City uses the USEPA’s Energy Star Portfolio Manager as the tool to collect all the energy and water information. • If this is your first time reporting, create a location - specific Energy Star Portfolio Manager Account. • Input location - specific information, like the building - use, size, and if there are multiple buildings on-site. • Collect your building’s energy and water use data from https://a826 - amr.nyc.gov/mydepaccount/ or the utility providers. “Energy”includes electricity, natural gas, fuel oil, and steam. • Upload energy and water data into your Portfolio Manager Account.

The deadline to submit 2017 data was extended to February 15, 2019, so if you miss the extended deadline, there is a $1,500 fine. In the future, report ing will be due on May 1st of each year and there will be a $500 fine assessed for each quarter a deadline is missed. Record Retention Dealers must retain documents regarding their building’s energy and water consumption for a minimum of three years.
