NEW LAW & POSTER REQUIREMENT
A new Electronic Monitoring Notification Law went into effect. Dealers that electronically monitor conversations, emails or internet use are required to provide “notice”to employees that electronic monitoring is used in the workplace. Dealers will need to display a new poster explaining that there is electronic monitoring at the dealership. Dealers will also need to have new hires sign an acknowledgement of receipt of the dealership’s electronic monitoring policy.
Below are answers to questions about the new requirements: Do the requirements apply to dealerships? Yes, the law applies to all private New York employers.
Which electronic monitoring is covered? If your dealership monitors or intercepts: telephone conversations, emails, internet access or usage, you are required to provide notice to employees.
