CHAIRMAN FROM THE
Dear Member: I’m proud to present you with your copy of the 2015 GNYADA Membership Directory. This is our most comprehensive Directory yet and I’m sure you will find it helpful. The size and scope of its contents confirms the incredible complex nature of running a new car dealership and also how reassuring it is for all of us to have a resource like GNYADA to help. Whether you’re looking for help from one of our vendors or you need legal or tax assistance, the following pages will provide you and your employees with useful information throughout the year. GNYADA’s experienced staff understands the N.Y. metro market and promotes good business practices on many fronts. From lobbying for beneficial legislation that helps level the playing field for dealers to fighting legislation that hurts our businesses, GNYADA’s Government Relations division affects positive change. The changes to the Franchise Bill reflect these efforts and are just one example of how the Association takes on our major issues. The Association provides a plethora of useful services that include; helpingwith the bottom-line (Warranty Parts Program), assisting with labor disputes (Employee Relations Plan), answering general questions (Dealer Services), supplying registration and titling work (DMV-DIRECT), Surety Bonds (Membership Services), providing healthcare and pension coverage (GNYADA Insurance Brokerage) and providing continual training at the industry’s highest level (Center for Automotive Education & Training). No matter your needs, GNYADA has you covered. So pick up the phone or send us an email, and we’ll be glad to assist! Best wishes,
Bob Vail, Chairman Greater New York Automobile Dealers Association

SERVICES FOR DEALERS

DEALER SERVICES
GNYADA receives inquiries from dealers seeking assistance on a wide variety of topics. Callers seek information ranging from ”Is my dealership required to disclose the prior use of a vehicle?,” “Can my customer export this car to a foreign country?,”to “Are e-cigarettes permitted in the dealership?” The Association’s team responds with assistance on everything from Red Flags Rule compliance and DMV regulations to calls for help with hundreds of other topics. Most often, we can resolve our members’ issues immediately. However, if the problem is more complex, Association staff conducts research in-house or reaches out to experts or the appropriate regulatory agencies.
Field Services GNYADA offers a Field Services team to keep dealers aware of current and pending issues. GNYADA field representatives with more than 30 years of experience working in metro-area dealerships, assists dealers daily, keeping them updated with the information they need to run their businesses. This personal contact helps ensure our programs are relevant to dealers and their employees. During the visits, members stock up on complimentary labor, service and shop posters. DMV forms, seminar
registration materials, and other useful items are available from our representatives. At the same time, a field representative may complete a walk-through of the dealership, inspecting each area for potential EPA, OSHA, and Privacy Act violations as well as proper signage.
Dealership Compliance Dealers are faced with a myriad of state and federal laws regulating their dealerships. For example, just keeping proper records can be complicated. GNYADA offers dealers compliance solutions through educational seminars, webinars andworkshops in addition to providing other hands-on reference compliance materials. Throughout the year, GNYADA gathers industry specialists to hold educationalseminarstoassistmemberswithcomplianceofcomplicated regulations affecting every aspect of dealership operations. Special seminars cover some of these topics; sales tax rules, privacy, identity theft, OSHA’s Hazard Communication, franchise law and workshops on “hot topics.” GNYADA hosts special regional programs for our northern and east end dealers.

Dealer Facility Licensing GNYADA also assists dealers through the arduous licensing/amendment process. Operating franchised dealerships in NewYork requires dealers to follownumerous DMV, tax and other rules and requirements. Additional documents are required for operating in New York City limits. Completing the application correctly and attaching the proper documentation and fees is mandatory; GNYADA’s experience and contacts help us guide both first-time New York dealers as well as established dealers through the system. Lowest Rates in New York State The Association assists dealers with out-of-state bonds, DCA bonds, Utility bonds, Games of Chance Bonds, ARISA Bonds and others. New York State Department of Motor Vehicles Law Section 415 requires new car dealers to have a $50,000 surety bond to secure or maintain their facility licenses. Since the program began, we have secured over 1,000 bonds for dealerships. GNYADA secures bonds for dealers through the “A” rated Selective Insurance at very reasonable rates. New car dealer bonds cost $300 and are valid for two years. GNYADA members can also purchase $25,000 used car bonds for their additional used car stores at $219. These are also valid for two years. Our bonds feature: • Simple application • No financial statements • 24 hour turnaround available • Amendments to name and address at no additional charge • No credit bureau checks for you OR your spouse • Flat rate pricing • Automatic renewal

GNYADA has a program to assist dealers prepare and submit compliant requests for increased reimbursement. Each manufacturer has different requirements and through GNYADA’s experience each submission is tailored to the specific brand. Government Relations - Advocacy for Franchised New Car Dealers GNYADA’s experienced staff understands that compliance with the laws and regulations for operating new car dealerships in the NewYork metropolitan area is challenging. The Association seeks relationships with lawmakers and government agencies to help shape the marketplace for members. GNYADA’s Government Relations staff monitors, creates and fights against detrimental legislation impacting dealership operations. Recent successes include passage of legislation that streamlines the lien release process, and blockage of several bills that could have negatively impacted dealers. GNYADA lobbied against a bill that would impose new costs for equipment and labor to inspect window tinting on vehicles. The Association is always vigilant regarding legislation that could be harmful to dealers (such as three-day cooling off proposals, unnecessary business regulations, and unfair tax burdens.) It doesn’t have to be complicated or confusing. Dental Insurance – plans can offer coverage in-network only or can be combined to offer out of network coverage to accommodate your employees. Vision Plans – relatively inexpensive benefit. It is however, a very important one. Studies have shown that most errors/mistakes are made by employees who should be wearing glasses but don’t since they are not covered by a vision plan at work. Life Insurance – most group Life Insurance plans will offer a guaranteed issue amount even if an employee has a medical condition. It is one of the best ways to obtain Life Insurance at a cost that is less expensive than an individual policy. Chose from Term, Universal or Whole Life Products. DBL – mandatory NYS Disability offers coverage up to 26 weeks with a maximum weekly payment of $170 which is taxable. Many employers look to enhance this benefit with a short term disability benefit and some opt to add a long term disability plan to maximize coverage. Voluntary Benefits – these plans are individual but are offered through a group plan. They are normally paid 100% by the employee. Most can be on a pre-tax basis. They are: • Specific Disease – this is coverage for cancer which helps pay for both medical and non-medical expenses. • Short Term Disability – assists you paying for your expenses while you are unable to work. • Accident - benefits are received depending on the type of accident incurred. • Hospital Confinement – can help protect you against out of pocket expenses, such as, deductibles and copays, which are associated with a hospital stay. • Life Insurance – Term or Universal. Term is the least expensive type of Life Insurance while Universal is more costly but builds up cash value. You decide which one meets your needs. Long Term Care – provides assistance when an individual can no longer perform the activities of daily living. Benefits can be received as an inpatient or at home. Pet Insurance – as much as you try to keep your pets safe and healthy, accidents and illnesses can still happen. This coverage will help you afford the care your pet needs. As a member of GNYADA you are entitled to a group discount of 10% and received an additional 10% if you cover multiple pets. Flexible Spending Accounts – allows employees to set aside a percentage of their pay on a pre-tax basis for eligible medical expenses ($2,550/yr.), dependent care ($5,000/yr.), parking ($250/mo.), and transit ($130/mo.). Senior Services –we can address the health insurance needs of your senior employees before and after they turn 65. There are benefits to both employees and employers.
Cobra – we administer this benefit for medical, dental and vision plans.
GNYADA’S team of experts will walk you thru the process and show you how to choose the plan that works the best for your business and situation. We can help you meet your needs and obtain your goals. Contact Michael W. Conway, Executive Director, at 718-746-8100 Ext. 405 or mconway@gnyada.com.

Automotive Youth Education Systems Through The Greater New York Automobile Dealers Association’s AYES Program, high school automotive technology students are given guidance to explore rewarding automotive careers. The GNYADA AYES Program fosters a bridge between technically-oriented young people who are exploring career options and automotive dealers who urgently need talented technicians. In addition to taking the required academic courses toward their high school degrees, students take challenging classroom/laboratory courses in basic automotive technology. The capstone of GNYADA’s AYES Program is a 320- hour workplace internship. Under the guidance of a “mentor” (an experienced technician), students develop both their technical skills and their skills as valuable employees. Upon high school graduation participating students are prepared to begin full-time entry- level employment, or to advance their technical education.
