120 YEARS AGO , A GROUP OF AUTOMOBILE ENTHUSIASTS IN MANHATTAN JOINED TOGETHER. THEIR GOAL: TO SHOWCASE AUTOMOBILES TO THE GROWING GROUP OF PEOPLE INTRIGUED BY THE ‘HORSELESS CARRIAGE.’ AND SO BEGAN A JOURNEY TO WHAT IS NOW THE NEW YORK INTERNATIONAL AUTO SHOW .
1
T hose early pioneers understood the power of collectively showcasing this new mode of transportation to generate more excitement than they could do individually. That basic approach to providing a large-scale auto experience has proved highly effective ever since. 120 years later, the New York Auto Show stands as a beacon of the auto industry, coming together each spring to promote new car and truck sales in the nation’s largest DMA. Every year, hundreds of thousands of consumers begin their car-buying journey by visiting the New York Auto Show. There is simply no better way to reach buyers that are either starting the journey or finalizing plans on their next new vehicle. The Show also allows OEMs to engage customers through personal interactions that build brand loyalty. Simply stated, the Show offers potential car buyers an experience that is immersive, entertaining, and memorable.

M uch is hotly debated about the future of our industry and the types of vehicles consumers will choose in the coming years. But just like the first show in 1900, we know the New York Auto Show will be integral in the decision process by offering consumers a one-stop shop to experience everything the industry has to offer, and a view into the future. It's the one place where they trust that the information received will be comprehensive and engaging.
about the incredible new technologies available. We are preparing for those challenges now. In the meantime, we invite you to re-live the magic of 2019 as we assemble another successful ride in 2020.

L ead acquisitions and customer conversions are core metrics of the New York Auto Show. Through extensive research, event organizers know that more people start their car buying journey in New York than at any other automotive marketing event in the nation. As a result, OEMs have the opportunity to convert and retain customers to their brand like no other event can. Engaging consumers is the number-one priority during the ten-day run of the Show, with an exciting dose of hands-on experiences including driving simulators and interaction with product specialists. Through using ride and drives and interactive exhibits—plus the ability to see, touch and feel nearly 1,000 vehicles—visitors truly understand the transportation options available to them. by the New York State Power Authority, New York State Energy Research and Development Association, Con Edison, and ABB, giving attendees a hands-on experience with electrification. Opening day brings multiple branding opportunities for OEMs The New York Auto Show provides dozens of branding opportunities for OEMs, and this year Nissan used the 50-year anniversary of the first-ever Datsun Z car in America to promote its brand heritage with a parade of historic and current Z vehicles during the Show’s Opening Day festivities. The ceremonies were officiated by New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo, and actor Tracy Morgan was on hand to drive the anchor vehicle, a 2020 Nissan 370z 50 th anniversary model. The New York Auto Show is thankful to Toyota for once again donating a brand new RAV4 to a military veteran, who was injured in combat, during the opening ceremony. Charity Night raises $15 Million This year marks the 20th anniversary of the charity night gala to benefit East Side House Settlement. The evening event raised more than $1.1 million in 2019 for the South Bronx- based non-profit organization, bringing the total contribution to more than $15 million over the past 20 years. James Brolin, Ethan Hawke and Jane Lynch were among 2019’s notable attendees while Porsche capped off the evening with the riveting auction of a Porsche GT2 RS, valued at over $300,000.

New York Auto Show goes live with WABC one-hour live special “Lively” is a description often used to describe New York City, and this year WABC-TV drove home the point by producing a one-hour “live” special of the New York Auto Show from the floor of the Javits Center. Viewership grew 18%, which beats all competitors combined. New York’s #1 local station brought the news team to the Auto Show for its one-hour live television special “NY Auto Show: In the Fast Lane” spotlighting all the must-see vehicles and special attractions at the Show. Hosted by WABC’s Lee Goldberg, Amy Freeze and Ryan Field, the special brought the Show floor to life for viewers during its primetime slot on Opening Day, Saturday, April 20. This program remains one of the biggest drivers in local consumer interest and gives NYIAS a platform to share all the excitement generated by the Show.

Each year, the Show engages with top social media platforms to create and deliver a robust digital marketing plan. For NYIAS, the shining star continues to be Instagram; it’s the fastest growing and most engaging channel. Utilizing Instagram Stories and higher frequency posting resulted in almost 50% more reach and impressions on the platform. Features like interactive stickers, polls, and trivia increased overall engagement. IGTV was a major player this year and included a series of three separate episodes from the Show floor titled “Tuned In” that took our online community through live world debuts, interactive OEM booths, and outdoor Ride-and-Drives. The IGTV series alone drew a 47% increase in Instagram impressions .

MAKING HEADLINES WITH B2B N ew York City is known around the world as a powerhouse in many areas from finance, media and advertising to culture and high technology. It is a place where business gets done. The New York Auto Show has always capitalized on this belief by partnering with organizations to bring all that’s great about the City and the auto industry together. Here are some of the B2B activities from this year’s Show.
Auto Forum brings Wall Street and the auto industry together Developed each year with NADA, JD Power and the New York Auto Show, the Auto Forum allows OEMs, renowned economists, industry experts, retailers, and other business leaders the opportunity to scrutinize the health of the auto industry and explore its future. Scott Keogh of Volkswagen; Toyota’s Bob Carter; Anders Gustafsson, President and CEO of Volvo; Fred Diaz, President and CEO, Mitsubishi; and Genesis’ Erwin Raphael all headlined the 2019 conference. Hypercar CEOs participate in the first-ever Hypercar Summit New York is no stranger to luxury, and the New York Auto Show’s first-ever “Hypercar CEO Summit” is a signal that this is a growing segment. The ultimate OEM vehicle safety showcase Traffic and vehicle safety are always crucial, and the World Traffic Safety Symposium—now in its 30th year— provides OEMs with a unique opportunity to present their safety technology to global and national traffic safety professionals and media. This year’s Symposium covered the behaviors of impaired, distracted and speeding drivers who are the number-one cause of crashes. Panelists and speakers included international safety experts, teens, automobile manufacturers, safety coalitions and public and private organizations.
Inspiring tomorrow’s workforce in 2020 and beyond The auto industry’s vocational training goes high-tech with the National Automotive Technology Competition. Each year, the New York Auto Show brings the entire industry–dealers, OEMs, suppliers, educators and engineers–together to support and promote careers and lifelong learning in the auto industry. With a national shortage of nearly 75,000 automotive technicians, the Competition encourages the brightest young talent to pursue careers in the industry. This year, 29 teams from across the US competed for the title of America’s Top Technician, with young technicians from the state of Pennsylvania talking the honor.
